Before you ring

Four things that save a second visit

  1. Model and serial from the plate — behind the kick panel on a range, inside the door frame on refrigeration
  2. What the appliance does and does not do, in the order it happens
  3. Any code on the display, exactly as it reads
  4. How the kitchen is reached: doorway width, stairs, and whether it is a rear ell
Screwdrivers, pliers and a wire brush on a towel beside a blower motor assembly with its fan wheel and mounting brackets

Asked on the phone

Before anyone is dispatched

Does the salt air actually change anything?

On the seaward side, yes, and mostly in fasteners and housings rather than in the electronics. Blower housings, hinge springs, burner caps and the screws holding a control panel on all corrode faster within sight of the water. It rarely causes the fault you called about, but it very often decides how long the repair takes.

Old Town lanes and a van — is that a problem?

Not usually, but it is worth settling on the phone. What matters is the doorway width, the turn at the bottom of the stairs and whether the kitchen is in a rear ell. If an appliance genuinely cannot come out, most of the work can still be done in place.

Can you look at an appliance still covered by the maker?

You can call, but it is usually the wrong move. Anything still covered belongs with a factory-authorised provider, so the cover is not put at risk. We are independent and have no part in that arrangement.

How does the service call work?

It is a flat figure, quoted before anyone is dispatched, and credited in full against the repair if you go ahead. Nothing is ordered until you have agreed to a number.

Do you take on a full professional suite in one visit?

Where it makes sense. On the Neck a call for a range often turns into a look at the hood and the refrigeration too, because they were installed together and they age together. You are told what is worth doing now and what can wait.

Is there a form on this site?

No. Contact is the telephone or the booking page, and nothing else. There is no email address and no contact form anywhere on this site.

What callers said afterwards

Drawn from 1295 reviews of this workshop.

  • The condenser out on the seaward side had corroded badly and the fan was dragging against it. He cleaned and treated the coil, fitted a new fan, then told me plainly how often the thing wants rinsing out here. Nobody had ever mentioned that to us before.

    Belinda F. · Marblehead Neck

  • Preheat had gone from twelve minutes to nearly forty. The door seal had shrunk and the glass panel was loose in its frame. New seal, panel resecured, and he wiped the fingerprints off the stainless afterwards.

    Tobias H. · Marblehead Neck

  • Water pooling in the bottom of the fresh food section. Drain tube blocked with sludge behind the rear panel. Flushed, heater clip fitted, no repeat since.
